I’ve uploaded around 210 images for 105 cards today. Every card should have an image for the time being.

Images and Records Added.

1970 Topps Card Featuring Hank Aaron.

1970 Topps Card Featuring Hank Aaron.

Today I have added some 210 records and almost all of the images for each corresponding card, the rest will be finished whenever I get around to doing it. This update is a little special since I have added all my “valuable” cards. Most of what I have is common cards that are not worth much more than the cardboard they are printed on but a few of them might actually be worth a little something. Some of the highlights include Hank Aaron and Nolan Ryan. I don’t really do this for the money but hey, it’s kinda nice to have something that might have a little valuable. The card I have featured to the right is one of the Hank Aaron cards in my collection,I like it because they seem to have caught him off guard and he has a confused look on his face.

New Cards Added

November 4th, 2009 Jeff No comments

After a couple of weeks away from home unable to enter or scan I have returned with 216 new records. There are some interesting card in this latest addition including some Tristar Projections cards from 2008 that consists of Minor Leaguers that they expect to be the stars of tomorrow. Whether or not that happens or if these fellas are even playing anymore is yet to be seen but an interesting set none the less. Scans will be coming over the next few days.

Much Needed Mobile Site Updates Completed!

October 28th, 2009 Jeff No comments

Holy crap what a nightmare! I haven’t been at home much lately so I decided to give the mobile side a little TLC. After a few new page additions I discovered that my mobile site was riddled with errors and broken links. How did this happen you ask? Well i through the mobile site together rather hastily and that led to inconsistencies in my coding (not that it’s full of inconsistencies anyway).

At this point I think I’ve gotten most, if not all, of the bugs worked out as well as adding a few things. Sets, duplicates, and the blog are now available for viewing on the mobile side and there has been an update to the color scheme to make it look a little less bad. Card images will also load on the card view screen bringing the crappiness down another notch. Finally, iphones are no longer redirected to the mobile site. After a site review with an iphone that does not belong to me I made the determination that I don’t need to limit the iphone and it has plenty of graphic power to display the relatively simple main site.

All in all I feel good about the changes, but as always let me know if something is wonky!

Just in case you were not aware there was a mobile site point your mobile device’s web browser to http://baseballcards.shawnajeff.com or http://m.baseballcards.shawnajeff.com for non-mobile devices (although I don’t know why you would want to do this!).

NEXT DAY UPDATE: I have added a new contact page on the mobile side as well as updating the links to be actual mobile links. If you have a link you’d like to exchange, either regular or mobile, let me know!

New Images and Tim McCarver

October 20th, 2009 Jeff No comments
Tim McCarver, 1968 Topps

Tim McCarver, 1968 Topps

I scanned and uploaded the front and backs of 70 more cards last night giving me a total of 6608 images taking up over a gig of space. I’m not going to say how long it’s taken to get to this point but every so often I wonder if this is truly worth the effort. Lucky for me I ran across this little gem last night that changed my mind, a Tim McCarver card from 1968.

Most people know Tim McCarver from the over 1 billion Regular, Post Season, and World Series games on which he has been a commentator, but did you know that his career in the MLB spanned 4 decades?! I’m sure you probably did and I don’t really care about that. You only have to play for 21 years to reach that milestone (Guess how many years he played…21) and there are many players who have had 20+ year careers.

If I haven’t mention it before, I dislike Tim McCarver. I find the sound of his voice very distasteful and his commentary is sub-par, bordering on garbage.

The real reason this card is a gem is because it’s like a look into the future from 1968. Maybe it’s just the poor image quality like a lot of cards from this time frame but he looks eerily similar to himself now, add a few wrinkles to his face and dye that fur coat of arm hair gray and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. I like to imagine him sitting on the bench in 1968 annoying his teammates with crappy color commentary.

Apparently I’m not the only one who doesn’t care for Mr. McCarver so I will leave you with a link today. Enjoy!

New Page and Trade Info

October 8th, 2009 Jeff No comments

I have added a new page this morning that lists the many duplicates in my collection. These cards are available for trade and sale. Although, I’d prefer not to do sales but if you really really want something make me an offer and I’ll see what I can do.

Just to reiterate the words of caution I wrote on the page itself. Many of the cards in this collection are not in the greatest condition and this is especially true for the duplicates. I tried to rate the cards as best I could but I am not a professional card grader and in fact I wouldn’t even consider myself an amateur. This leads to somewhat erratically rated cards. In addition to this the card image on the info page is not necessarily the scan of the card that is up for trade.

I understand these issues are big for many collectors so I am willing to take images with my fancy digital camera before any deal is done. The quality should be much better than my scans anyway.

What am I looking for?? Anything I don’t have, be it cards missing from sets I have or cards from sets I don’t have. Quality isn’t a huge issue for me but I don’t want anything in horrible condition.

Find something you want to trade? Head over to the Contact Form and let me know!

302 new records were added this evening. It’s quite the mix of cards with the largest span of years yet, 1969-2009. Images will be added sporadically until all of them have been scanned.

Updates and Things

September 25th, 2009 Jeff No comments

I’ve just added 100+ new records to the database and I’m working on getting all these bad boys scanned it. I’ve also cleaned up numerous stupid data entry errors so things are a little more crispy. If you notice any errors please click the “report errors” button and let me know!
